Crypto Copy Trading Guide: One-Tap Copy and Autocopy (2026)

Learn how crypto copy trading works, when to copy one trade, when to Autocopy a trader, and how to manage allocation, leverage, and drawdown risk.

Legend·August 28, 2026

Crypto copy trading lets you use another trader's activity as the starting point for your own positions. On Legend, you can do that at two levels: copy one trade when it appears in the feed, or turn on Autocopy for a trader and mirror their position changes over time.

The choice matters. A one-tap copy is a decision about one setup. Autocopy is an allocation to a trader's broader strategy, including the wins, losses, leverage, and drawdowns that follow.

The Two Ways to Copy on Legend

One-tap copy for an individual trade

Use one-tap copy when a specific trade makes sense to you. You can review the market, direction, leverage, entry, and size before confirming it in your account.

You remain responsible for the position after it opens. You can change its risk controls or close it independently of the trader who shared it.

This works well when:

  • You understand the setup and want exposure to that single idea.
  • You want to decide trade by trade.
  • You plan to manage the exit yourself.
  • The trader's overall style does not fit your account, but one position does.

Autocopy for an entire trader

Autocopy follows a trader continuously. You choose an allocation, and Legend uses it to mirror the trader's positions proportionally in a dedicated Autocopy wallet. When the trader opens, resizes, flips, or closes a position, the copying engine updates your corresponding position.

You can choose to copy only positions opened after Autocopy starts. This avoids entering positions that may already be far from the trader's original entry.

Autocopy works well when:

  • You have reviewed a trader's full record and want their broader strategy.
  • You want entries and exits handled automatically.
  • You can tolerate the trader's normal drawdowns.
  • You have a clear allocation and review schedule.

How Autocopy Sizes Positions

Your account does not copy the trader's raw dollar size. Legend scales positions to the capital you allocated.

Suppose a trader has $20,000 available to their strategy and opens $4,000 of BTC exposure. That position uses 20% of their strategy equity. If you allocated $500 to Autocopy, your target exposure would be scaled around the same proportion, subject to market minimums, available margin, and execution constraints.

This proportional model prevents a large account's raw order size from being dropped into a much smaller account. It still carries meaningful risk: leverage, correlated positions, and rapid losses can affect the allocated wallet quickly.

What to Check Before You Copy

Track-record length

A large return over a few trades says little about repeatability. Review a meaningful window and look at how the trader performed in different market conditions.

Drawdown

Drawdown shows how far a portfolio fell from a prior peak. Compare a trader's return with the depth and duration of their losses. A smooth 30% gain and a volatile 30% gain create very different copying experiences.

Leverage

High leverage leaves less room for price movement before liquidation. Check whether the trader regularly uses leverage that fits your risk tolerance.

Concentration

A trader may appear diversified while holding several positions driven by the same market factor. Long BTC, ETH, and a group of high-beta crypto equities can behave like one concentrated trade during a selloff.

Closed and open PNL

Realized gains show what has been completed. Open PNL can reverse before a position closes. Review both, along with the underlying positions, before allocating.

Profit share and trading costs

An Autocopy trader may charge a share of profits on winning trades. The rate is displayed before you start. Trading fees, funding, spread, and slippage also affect your result.

Copy Trading Risk Management

Treat the Autocopy allocation as capital at risk.

  • Start with an amount you can evaluate calmly through a losing period.
  • Avoid allocating all available margin to one trader.
  • Consider how copied traders overlap with positions you already hold.
  • Review drawdown and leverage alongside return.
  • Keep enough available margin for volatility and fees.
  • Stop or reduce an allocation when the trader's behavior no longer matches the reason you selected them.

Copying several traders can spread manager-specific risk, but it does not guarantee diversification. Three traders who all hold the same directional exposure can lose together.

Copy Trading on Hyperliquid

Legend's Autocopy engine mirrors positions on Hyperliquid. Positions settle onchain, and the performance record you inspect comes from real trading activity rather than screenshots or manually entered results.

Hyperliquid also creates a shared execution layer across crypto and HIP-3 markets. A trader can express views across crypto, stocks, commodities, indices, and FX where those markets are available, while the copied allocation stays in its own wallet.

One-Tap Copy or Autocopy?

| Choose | When it fits | | -------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | | One-tap copy | You want one specific trade and plan to manage it yourself | | Autocopy | You want to allocate to a trader's strategy and mirror future position changes | | Trade manually | You have your own thesis, entry, sizing, and exit plan |

You can use all three approaches in the same account. The important part is knowing who controls the next decision: you, or the trader you chose to Autocopy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Autocopy the same as copy trading?

Autocopy is Legend's continuous copy-trading feature. It mirrors a selected trader's position changes using the capital you allocate. Legend also supports one-tap copying for individual trades.

Can I stop Autocopy?

Yes. You can manage or stop an active Autocopy allocation from the app. Review the position and withdrawal impact before confirming changes.

Does Autocopy guarantee the same return as the trader?

No. Proportional sizing, minimum order sizes, available margin, timing, slippage, fees, funding, and profit share can cause results to differ.

Can I Autocopy more than one trader?

Yes. Each allocation should still be evaluated as part of your total portfolio exposure.
